Full Job Description

Requirements

Must have:

- We require 7+ years of experience in web, UI, and UX design. - We look for 1-2 years of experience in a startup or agency environment. - We need a portfolio that demonstrates strong range across websites and web/mobile applications, including work with flows, states, and edge cases. - We expect solid expertise in UX and UI design, including mobile app interface design. - We value experience building and maintaining design systems and component libraries. - We need proven ability to estimate time accurately and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines. - We require excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly present the reasoning behind design choices to internal and external stakeholders. - We look for the ability to explain how design decisions affect development and support business and user goals. - We expect experience creating information architecture deliverables such as site maps and user flows, with sound judgment on when each is needed. - We require a high standard for visual QA, including the ability to spot issues in spacing, typography, motion, and state behavior. - We value experience mentoring and coaching more junior designers. - Motion and interaction design experience, including tools such as After Effects or Lottie, is a strong asset. - Comfort discussing HTML and CSS with developers is an advantage. - Exposure to design analytics such as heatmaps, A/B testing, or Google Analytics is a plus. - Experience conducting customer interviews is considered beneficial. - We are looking for a self-starter who can multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced setting. - We want someone who is collaborative, independently capable, and confident working through ambiguity. - We value a critical thinker who consistently asks why behind requirements and design decisions. - We require a calm, confident presence in client-facing conversations. - We look for someone who is quality-focused, highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable. - We require strong time management, precise note-taking, and consistent follow-through. - We prefer candidates who can reliably commute to Toronto, ON, or are willing to relocate before starting. - We require prior experience working with a web agency or digital consultancy.

Responsibilities:

  • We lead end-to-end design work for web and mobile projects, from early wireframes through polished UI and developer handoff. - We contribute to client discovery and whiteboarding sessions when bandwidth allows, or independently begin wireframing from scope documents and meeting notes when needed. - We present wireframe and design concepts to clients and clearly explain the reasoning behind layout, hierarchy, visual direction, and aesthetic decisions. - We design with logic and user experience in mind, accounting for flows, states, and edge cases throughout the process. - We collaborate closely with developers, QA, and project delivery managers to ensure strong execution. - We assess client feedback thoughtfully, implement improvements where they add value, and push back constructively when changes could weaken the design or implementation. - We maintain a robust design system for long-term clients and create focused style guides for smaller engagements when appropriate. - We oversee visual QA across desktop, tablet, and mobile, documenting issues related to spacing, typography, responsiveness, scroll behavior, sticky elements, hover states, and more. - We clearly define responsive behavior so sections adapt appropriately across breakpoints. - We manage multiple active projects at once with strong prioritization and time control. - We raise capacity concerns early so deadlines are protected. - We support a senior, small-team environment and contribute to the growth of the broader design culture. - We help ensure design outputs align with both business objectives and user needs.
