Requirements
Must have:
- We need proven experience working effectively in an agile, multidisciplinary team environment, delivering iterative design components as part of a project team. - We need experience designing accessible solutions across multiple channels to meet customer needs. - We need proven ability to produce user-centred design deliverables such as user flows, process flows, service blueprints, and site maps. - We need proficiency with prototyping tools such as GOV.UK Prototype Kit, Figma, or Adobe XD to create and validate high-fidelity prototypes. - We need experience conducting usability testing, either independently or with user researchers. - We need demonstrated experience working with the GOV.UK Design System, Service Manual, and design principles, including recommending new patterns or updating existing ones. - We need experience leading community of practice activities. - We need proven ability to mentor and coach designers across the user-centred design profession. - We need strong leadership, collaboration, presentation, and communication skills. - We need the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. - We need candidates to be willing and able to meet our security and vetting requirements, including holding or obtaining higher security clearance and meeting the UK residency requirement for clearance checks. - We need applicants to submit an anonymised CV and a 750-word personal statement that clearly demonstrates how they meet the essential criteria. - We require successful candidates to meet the relevant background, criminal record, and right-to-work checks.
Responsibilities:
- We design and develop user-centred public services within agile, multidisciplinary teams. - We work on complex transformation programmes by collaborating with service managers and programme directors to rapidly develop design concepts. - We participate in user research, create prototypes, and design user interactions across channels, devices, and technologies. - We justify our design decisions using evidence and data. - We champion a consistent, high-quality user experience across our organisation and the wider government community. - We promote reusable design elements, best practices, and user-centred design standards and guidance. - We use the GOV.UK Design System and ensure our designs meet accessibility, legal, security, and GOV.UK Service Standard requirements. - We take ownership of design activities such as facilitating critiques and documenting user journeys. - We provide management support, coaching, mentoring, and training to other designers, including HEO Interaction Designers. - We support the development of other designers and help maintain the quality of their work. - We lead community of practice activities and contribute to design excellence across the organisation. - We work proactively with stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to resolve complex public service and infrastructure issues.
